What 3D programs are there?

3D PRINTING HELP CENTRE

In the 123-3D help centre, we answer all your questions about 3D software and printer settings, problems you may experience during or after 3D printing and other 3D-related topics.

What 3D programs are there?

When you get started with 3D printing, you will have to deal with various software, tools and programs. Basically, two different types can be distinguished:
  • 3D slicer software
  • 3D modelling software

3D slicer software

With the slicer software, you can upload 3D files to your printer. This software then converts the file into the correct format, so that your 3D printer can read the design. You can also set all basic printer settings via the slicer software. Curious about what else you do with slicer software? Read more on this page about slicer software.

3D modelling software

If you don't want to use existing prints, you can create 3D designs yourself. You use 3D modelling software for that. This designer software contains powerful tools with CAD/CAM support, allowing you to create even the most complex 3D objects. Curious which modelling software is suitable for beginners? Learn more about 3D designer software on this page. Want to know which slicer or modelling software is currently the most used and why? View the top 10 3D software for Mac here and the most popular 3D programs for Windows here.
